Biotechnology Division	To impart training on genetics and tree improvement programme for front line field foresters.
Conservation Division	Providing technical knowledge on nursery management and nursery techniques of Medicinal and RET species. Development of nursery and cultivation techniques of important medicinal plants. Provision of planting material of medicinal plants and RET species. Biodiversity assessment. Herbarium preparation and maintenance, Identification and taxonomical classification of plants. Training on sustainable use of forest resources.
Forest Management Division	Silvicultural operations, nursery management and soil testing. Preparation of the volume tables, yield tables and analysis of data for different site qualities and forest areas. Trainings in soil sample analysis and capacity building & skill development of members of JFMCs and field foresters.
Forest Utilization Division	Marketing Information Services for NWFPs. Collection, processing and sustainable harvesting of NWFPs and gums. Ethno-botanical studies for information regarding traditional knowledge, Studies on forest-based livelihoods Study of sacred groves and its importance in forest conservation. Training on sustainable harvesting practices of NTFPs and medicinal plants.
Productivity Division	Seed collection and disposal. Seed testing and certification. To impart training on seed technology and nursery management to field foresters. To impart training on sustainable management and quality fruit collection of important NTFPs to stakeholders. Provide technical know–how of seed and nursery techniques of forestry seeds to different user groups. Extension of research activities of the division to user groups and field foresters of the department at the time of visit in the institute.
Social Economic Division	Studies of changes in the pattern of dependence of tribal and other forest dwelling communities on forests. Estimation of the quantities of various non-nationalized NTFPs, including medicinal plants, annually collected in the state and their economic valuation. Assessment of the demand and potential availability of raw material resource for forest based industries. Survey and documentation of currently prevailing social forestry, farm forestry bund planting and agroforestry practices, along with their economics. Development of suitable agroforestry models for various agroclimatic zones of the state. Impact assessment of various policies, legislations, rules, regulations, government resolutions, schemes, programmes procedures, etc. related to forestry sector, identification of problems/bottlenecks in their implementation and suggesting amendments/modifications, if required.
Wildlife Department
Animal Ecology Division	Predator and prey population monitoring at in-situ condition. Species recovery programme of locally extinct or newly introduced species in various protected areas of Madhya Pradesh, Re-introduction/re-wildling/translocations of carnivores and herbivores. Conservation of lac insects and promotion of lac cultivation in central India through regional lac gene bank and ornamental nursery. Training on capacity building of frontline forest staff on predator and prey monitoring and other burning wildlife issues.
Wildlife Management Division	Study on wildlife management, Human wildlife conflict, Wildlife corridor management and Wildlife conservation plan. Training for forest official on human animal conflict management.
Ecotourism & Conservation Education Division	Ecotourism and Conservation Education
Habitat Ecology Division	Population estimation of tiger, co-predator and prey, Technical guidance on modern scientific tools and technologies for assessment of wildlife. Preparation of Wildlife Habitat Management / Habitat Improvement Plan and, Grassland management. Ecological studies of aquatic animals and their habitat in the wetlands of forest areas. Ecological studies post relocation of villages. Training to front line staff of the forest department on the issued identified by the forest department for wildlife conservation.
